Commuter electric bikes were getting more and more popular in 2020. Not only countries set laws on electric bikes, but countries also create routes, especially for bikers. So we got to see every 1 or 2 e-bikes commuters moving along the street very often. So electric bikes had indeed become the new primary mode of transportation.

Compare to driving a car, riding an e-bike save much more money. E-bikes are environmentally friendly, and fewer chances of infected with COVID 19. It helps to reduce the carbon footprint in the city. In any busy city, the school are just streets away from home. Professionals who want to work out in the morning and push for an adrenaline rush do not have much time. Domestic helpers are going to eateries, hyper marts or shop outlets for shopping near the subway station. Train commuters who residents a short distance away from the subway station yet do not want to spend money on short bus rides. E-bikes come in so handy for these commuters, fulfilling daily activities efficiently.

As a city commuter, e-bike becomes my daily tool. For example, I travelled to the subway station in 5 minutes using an e-bike, which took me a 15 minutes walk to the subway station. Parking my e-bike at the subway station, and I took the train to work. Ending a day at work, I returned with some groceries and took a ride home.

On a personal note, this is e-bike can run far and long. Furthermore, the weight is very light to bring around, and the battery took the shortest time to complete. Though the price is averagely high, it had proven to be worth it.

2: Cooper E Disc

Cooper Bikes is the bicycle division of the Cooper Car Company, which made the original Mini Cooper. The latest bike is built with Reynolds 520 steel, tough A-frame for the body. Amazingly, the bike only weighs 12.8 kg. The exciting part is that the 250-watt motor is a built-in KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery) system, the same as those found in Formula One cars.  The Zehus All-in-One electric hub is a fully integrated battery that doesn’t come with an on-off switch. Shimano Altus Hydraulic Disc Brake is what they use to put the bike to a stop.

Cleverly use of technology, Cooper can start up the motor by back-pedalling three times. The bike provides a stable and neutral ride, given a top speed of up to 15.5 mph maximum. Charging of the battery is done by plugging into the charging bolt on the drive-side of the rear wheel. In a single charge, the bike runs for 15.5 miles. Cooper’s design is very known to be classic and traditional, be it the steel and the colour. On a personal note, if you are a vintage lover, you will love this bike at the first look. It is always the old and powerful one.

3: Vanmoof Electrified S2

What is unique about this bike is, it comes with an integrated e-lock system. The anti-theft nuts and bolts are neither locking the chain or the cable, but it’s a pin that holds the rear wheel to be immobile when it’s closed manually or using a password. High technology and out of the box, isn’t it? Not only this, the bike includes a location tracker.

On a personal note, the Vanmoof bike is worth great value for money, high tech and equally powerful. The downside is the design is relatively simple. So this bike is perfect for practical people.

4: Brompton Electric

Specialist in folding e-bike is none other than Brompton. These London made e-bikes are light weighted, come with a battery bag so handy, and small enough to bring into the subway. Not only these, but the e-bike also performs equivalently good to most of the e-bikes out there. Using a Samsung battery can be powered at 300Wah, enabling biker to ride on 20 to 50 miles. The lithium made battery comes with a 1.5 litres bag compartment in the basic package. To upgrade to the 2.0-litre slab, you can pay a little more for the battery. Like any portable battery, it can also be used for charging any other electronic devices.  The battery took 5 hours to charge.

Unlike the traditional A-framed e-bike, this bike is shaped much to an L-framed. Other than the modernised outlook, the cyclist can practically fold down the bike to a portable luggage size of 585 mm high x 565 mm long x 270 mm. The Haibike, known makers for mountain e-bikes, also had its road e-bikes for city commuters. Built in a German-style, the frame, made of aluminium 6061 with low step, constructed a robust and firm body, able the bike to withstand heavyweight object. Attached with Teatro HD M285 aluminium brake, it could steadily stop the cycle whenever the need to. We understand why aluminium is used again due to its durable, corrosion-resistant and light-weighted character. On a personal note, it is vital for the long ride to work, worthy for a reasonable price with this construction.

7. Delite GT Nuvinci Riese & Muller

Machine makers, motor specialists or experts in mechanics, no one could beat the Germans. Creation from the hands of Germans, the bike is constructed in details of engineering control and design. The aluminium frame is set in high step, building a sturdy structure, made the body robust and durable. Heavy as it is, the bike weighs 30kg.  The bike is built-in with a dual battery system, powered at 482 Wah. The bike could ride from 25 miles to as long as 100 miles with the dual battery system. Both batteries can be charged at the same time; the charging time took around 3.5 hours.

Using its own technology and creation, 1 Speed 1x∞ NuVinci N380 geared the bike in high speed, top at 28mph, ensure a smooth ride on the road. Attached with Shimano Deore Hydraulic Disc, the bike put to a stop at any instant. This bike is designed with a fusion of the classic framework and modern squarely structure. Filled with glittered colours, the bike shines with a tint for a sporty outlook.

On a personal note, this bike worth investing in if you like BMW or Mercedes Benz. The strong and durable framework could take a war ground. On the downside, the bike is heavy duties.

8: Specialized Turbo Vado 6.0

Specialized Turbo Vado made e-bikes with high power and high speed. In its recent version 6.0, Turbo Vado 6.0 battery is designed as integrates into the frame. It comes with a lockable function and easily removable for simplified charging. Using a Specialized U1-604 battery, the bike is powered at 604 Wah; Vado 6.0 can deliver a pedal-assisted boost to 50 miles. On a personal note, I like its full black designed, standing tall like a black knight. The price is much on the high end, but this cut down the weight a little more.

9: Izip E3 Dash

Dash, living up to its name, enables bikers to dash with a mid-drive speed at 28 mph. Made of 6061 aluminium alloy, the body is a built-in high step frame. The Panasonic lithium battery-powered at 417-watt hour weighs 2.7kg. This added to the total weight of 24kg for the bike. Charging of the battery took 5 hours. You can detach the battery from the bike for charging. The battery can last for 16 – 40 miles on a single charge.

The 10-speed gears drive the bike smoothly, gliding along the road and turns. Using Shimano M355 hydraulic disc brakes, the bike could stop easily within an instant. Overall, the bike is designed with a little sporty and modernized outlook. Coated with a silver body, the bike portrays a sense of elegance.

On a personal note, this bike is average in value. However, if you love to ride at high speed and love the control, this bike is what you are looking for.

10: Pendleton Somerby Electric

Getting onto this hybrid bike is much easier due to its low step with frame. Using a 317Wh battery, the range can last 40 – 50 miles. The battery can be recharged in 5 hours. Somerby also included an integrated smart control system to prevent overheating the battery, short-circuiting or overcharging. Charging of the battery pack can either be performed on the bike or detached from the bike.

The body is added with mudguards and chain guard to prevent bikers from getting stains. The 8-speed Shimano gears ensure a smooth ride in fast mode. However, speed is automated to 15.5 mph by a speed sensor abiding to transport legal requirements. Moreover, with Tektro alloy V-brakes, the bike could come to a halt steadily when the biker decided to stop.

On a personal note, if you like classic design, this is the bike for you. In addition, this bike is great value for money.
